In an era where active civic engagement is more crucial than ever, a new beacon for youth empowerment has officially emerged. The Kaya Natin! Movement, in a synergistic collaboration with the Fellows of the Young Leaders for Good Governance (YLGG) Program under the esteemed Jesse M. Robredo Foundation, has successfully launched its newest youth development initiative: the Young Leaders’ Academy for Good Governance (YLAGG).
The inaugural iteration of this groundbreaking academy took place from March 27 to 28, 2026, against the historic and resilient backdrop of the Province of Leyte. Demonstrating the immense hunger for proactive civic participation among today’s youth, the program received hundreds of impassioned applications from across the province. Ultimately, a highly selective cohort of about forty exceptional young leaders was chosen to participate in this intensive, two-day summit.

At the heart of the YLAGG curriculum lies a commitment to translating youthful idealism into tangible, grassroots impact. The academy is firmly anchored on a set of core objectives designed to equip participants with practical, ethical leadership skills. Primarily, the initiative focuses on building dynamic youth-led movements that can effectively advocate for transparency, accountability, and progressive reform. Furthermore, it provides rigorous training in community organizing, ensuring that these emerging leaders understand the nuances of mobilizing their peers and constituents toward a common goal. Finally, the program dedicates significant time and mentorship to guiding participants in crafting sustainable, youth-led projects tailored to address the unique socio-economic challenges of their respective localities.
The resounding success and high productivity of the Leyte summit would not have been possible without the unwavering support of dedicated local public servants who deeply share the movement’s vision for the future. The organizers and fellows extend their sincere gratitude to Governor Jericho “Icot” Petilla for his vital institutional support, which laid a strong foundation for the event. Special appreciation is also extended to Board Member Raissa Villasin, Councilor Boycie Roca, Councilor Mae Jane Morabe-Borais, Vice Mayor Jude Romualdez, Board Member Kerby Salazar, and Councilor Guill Mariano. Their utmost support and invaluable backing were instrumental in creating a conducive environment where these young minds could thrive, learn, and collaborate effectively.

As the first 40 graduates of the Young Leaders’ Academy for Good Governance return to their home municipalities, they carry not just theoretical knowledge of ethical leadership but also the practical tools necessary to enact meaningful change. The successful conclusion of this first event in Leyte marks a promising beginning for YLAGG’s mission to foster a nationwide network of young, capable, and principled leaders dedicated to continuing the enduring legacy of good governance.
